Home Rekey & Lockout Service: What Actually Happens on the Job
When you call us for a rekey, a technician arrives with a full set of pinning kits and key blanks. We disassemble the lock cylinder — whether it is a Schlage B-series deadbolt, a Kwikset door knob lock, or a multi-point mortise lock on an older Bergen County front door — and replace the internal pins so that every previous key becomes permanently useless. New keys are cut on the spot and tested in the lock before we leave. If you have multiple entry points, we can key them all to a single key so you are not juggling a ring of different cuts. The whole process is methodical and leaves no marks on your door or hardware.
A lockout call follows a similar discipline. Our first step is always ownership verification — we ask for a photo ID and proof of address such as a lease, a utility bill, or a piece of mail. This is standard practice that protects both you and your neighbors and is something every legitimate locksmith will require. Once identity is confirmed, the technician assesses the specific lock and door situation and selects the least invasive method to restore your access. We do not default to drilling. In the majority of home lockout calls, non-destructive entry is entirely possible, which means your existing hardware stays intact and no replacement parts are needed. If a lock is already compromised or you want to upgrade, we carry common Schlage and Kwikset stock and can install a new unit the same visit.
